Adaptive Leadership is required in uncertain and ambiguous times to develop collective leadership, when reshaping the entrenched habits of work, values and behaviour is demanded for an organisation to thrive.

In this program, you will learn how to create and lead a spirit and practice of collective leadership throughout your organisation, to move beyond a culture of dependency and blame, or an expectation that you will have the answers to every problem and the ideas for every opportunity. 

Develop your capacity to mobilise others to exercise leadership.


Who should apply?
Selection for the Australian Adaptive Leadership program is a competitive process however applications are welcome from all people who meet the following eligibility criteria.
  • 3 - 5 years experience in a leadership role(s), either formally or informally.
  • Committed to learning and further developing their own leadership practice.
  • Demonstrated level of self-awareness and a willingness to further develop in this area.
  • An openness and desire for your leadership thinking and practice to be challenged.
  • Australian citizens or permanent residents.

What you will learn?
We begin with purpose – why you do the work you do, and progress through the complexities of leadership.
  • Work with increased self awareness with clarity of purpose and values.
  • Build resilience and confidence to work in unfamiliar circumstances.
  • Recognise and respond to complex, adaptive problems.
  • Lead change in times of crisis and chaos or when faced with uncertainty and resistance.
  • Develop high levels of community and cultural awareness, and be able to link this to your work.
  • Understand the purpose and necessity of collaboration for achieving outcomes.
  • Have an increased awareness and appreciation of power and rank.
  • Have a greater awareness of working with diversity and conflict.
Limited to 24 carefully selected candidates.
Round 1 applications close on 30 November 2018.  
Round 2 applications will open in January 2019 subject to availability of places after Round 1 offers.

Rosamund Christie
Program Director
Rosamund is a specialist in adaptive leadership and concurrently holds the role of adjunct faculty at the Australian Graduate School of Management, and previously delivered the adaptive leadership program, Sydney Leadership, at Social Leadership Australia, and has over fifteen years’ experience delivering programs for Women in Leadership.

Rosamund completed The Art and Practice of Adaptive Leadership at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. She holds a Master of Arts (Literature and Psychology) from the University of Sydney, and delights in weaving literature into her work.

Dr Jane Martin
Director, Facilitator and Coach
Dr Jane Martin is a dedicated facilitator, clinical psychologist, educator and coach and is currently the Director of Training for the Australian and New Zealand Process Oriented Psychology Training School where she trains practitioners working with complex challenges. 

Her qualifications and accreditations include: Doctorate of Clinical Psychology; Graduate Diploma of Psychology; Graduate Diploma of Process Oriented Psychology; Graduate Diploma of Education; Bachelor of Social Work; Diploma of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Acupuncture.


Julie Ahern
Director, Facilitator & Coach
An experienced facilitator and accredited coach, Julie delivers transformative learning experiences underpinned by her practical experience and a deep understanding of Adaptive Leadership, Adult Stages of Development, Deep Democracy and Process Oriented Psychology.

Julie holds a Bachelor of Adult Education, an Associate Diploma in Adult Education, and is a graduate of the Australia and New Zealand Training Faculty for Process Oriented Psychology.
Lisa Ryan
Director, Facilitator & Coach
With over a decade’s experience in adaptive leadership, Lisa is well-recognised for her skills in building a safe and challenging learning environment. She is an outstanding coach and facilitator, and believes whole-heartedly that building leadership skills is critical in achieving social change.

Lisa’s qualifications include Bachelor of Arts (Politics and History), Bachelor of Social Work (First Class Hons), Graduate Certificate Public Sector Management, Alumna Sydney Leadership Program.


Program components
Opening Retreat
You will spend two days of the program at Wiseman's Ferry, in idyllic surroundings being introduced to new concepts of leadership and stepping into an alternative learning space that provides a framework for the year ahead.
Program Days
Our program days are held at various locations around Sydney and in communities or institutions that relate to the theme or issue being explored.
Canberra Study Tour
Spend three days immersed in Australia’s national political system observing first-hand the motions of power, authority and system in action.
Closing Retreat
During the final two days of the program, the group will re-gather to reflect, consolidate and celebrate what has been achieved and what lies ahead.
Mentoring
Participants will be offered the opportunity of a mentor from the Adaptive Leadership Australia alumnus.
Coaching
The program includes coaching sessions which help you to integrate learnings from the program into your role and organisational work.
Syndicate Group Work
Throughout the program, participants are placed into small groups to work together on a selected task and create another network of support.
